A ROAD user was seriously hurt when a driver's careless U-turn caused a horror smash on a major North Ayrshire road.
John O'Reilly's actions led to a collision on the A737 near its junction with Head Street in Beith.
The 61-year-old appeared at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court for sentencing after pleading guilty to a charge of careless driving.
O'Reilly, of Netherton Drive, Barrhead, admitted attempting a U-turn on the road when it was unsafe on October 7, 2021.
His actions saw him drive into the path of an oncoming vehicle, causing a collision.
O'Reilly was spared losing his licence but was handed eight penalty points.
He was also fined £470.
