A family group from the Three Towns represented Scotland this month at a religious Youth Festival in Medjugorje, Bosnia Herzegovina.

Joining over 70,000 pilgrims from all over the world were brother and sister Amy and Matthew Evans, cousins Grace and Mia Lynch and Calum Lynch.

They are pictured above with parents David and Claire Evans and grandfather Matthew Lynch, a parishioner of St Peter’s Ardrossan.

Pilgrims have been flocking to Medjugorje since 1981, when six teenagers were reported to have seen repeated visions of the Virgin Mary there.

Referred to as Our Lady of Medjugorje, Pope Francis declared in 2017 that the original visions reported by the teenagers were worth studying in more depth.

Since 2019, the Catholic Church has sanctioned pilgramages to the site.

Grandad Matt Lynch told the Herald: "Our trip went well and the kids enjoyed it and took part in some of the things going on.

"The appearance of the Blessed Lady in 1981 is a miracle but not yet approved by the church.

"I have been going for five years now and I just love the place. It is very peaceful."
