Network Rail will be carrying out overnight work to remove trees and vegetation near the line around Ardrossan South Beach Station next month.

The work is scheduled to take place on:

  • Saturday September 2 from 11pm until 8am on Sunday, September 3.
  • Sunday, September 3 from 11pm until Thursday, September 7 at 6.30am.
  • And Sunday, September 10 from 11pm until Thursday September 14 at 6.30am.

A Network Rail spokesperson said: "We aim, through the management of lineside trees and vegetation, to ensure the safety of our operational rail line.

"This keeps passengers safe and trains punctual and reduces risk for our neighbours. Our tree and vegetation management process involves careful planning and is a co-ordinated effort between different professionals across our teams.

"Our approach varies across our routes, as we work to address the unique local geographic and ecological considerations, but wherever we are, our focus is on having a respectful balance between protecting lineside biodiversity while ensuring a safe and efficient railway."

The spokesperson added: "Where possible we work at time which are least disruptive. We only work at night where there is no alternative.

"We will consider when it is the safest times for our teams to work and when it causes least disruption to train operators.

"We are always mindful of the impact our work may have on you and do what we can to minimise this, however an element of noise is unfortunately unavoidable and we want to apologise in advance if you are disturbed by the work."

Network Rail does not require permission to fell trees if they are on their land and pose a risk to the safe operation of the railway.

If there is a Tree Preservation Order or the location is within a Conservation Area, there can be an obligation to obtain permission from the planning authority.
