Kilbirnie’s Nicola Muir, 21, gave birth to a baby boy – in the back seat of her aunt’s car on the way to Crosshouse hospital. Her partner Derek Pullar jumped into the back seat of Aunt Tricia’s vehicle to help deliver the wee one on the A77.
Talented tennis prodigy Meghan Montgomerie was being tipped to go to the very top of her sport. The 11-year-old Caledonia Primary pupils turned in an outstanding performance at a highly prestigious event staged at Wimbledon in 2008, where she met up with Andy Murray – still to win his first Grand Slam title.

Kilwinning's Mikey Hughes was pipped at the post for the £100,000 winner’s prize at the 2008 live Big Brother. The blind DJ lost to his friend Rachel Rice by a tiny margin, but said he still felt like a winner, having put his home town on the map.
Ardrossan Accies Rugby Club Youth Section secured a £500 funding boost from the Magnox North Hunterston A power Station.
