St Anthony’s Primary pupil David McBlain, aged six, earned a place in the last stage of the PGA Wee Wonders Open Golf Championship at St Andrews. He first picked up a golf club at the age of just three.

Ardrossan and Saltcoats Herald: Kingfisher

In a bid to attract kingfishers back to the Stevenston Burn behind New Street, the hard-working Friends Group from Ardeer went into action.

Leader Gavin McInnes and members Lee Brennan, Robert Moore and Steven McDade are pictured in September 2003 as they deepened the water pool in the burn near the town centre, in a bid to make it a more enticing habitat for these spectacular birds.

Big-hearted youngsters at Mayfield Primary School in Saltcoats handed over a bumper cheque for £325 to Margaret Strachan and Louise McKellar of North Ayrshire Cancer Care.

The 1st Saltcoats Rainbows show off the goody bags and certificate they received as thanks for raising £140 for the charity Children with Leukaemia.

Ardrossan and Saltcoats Herald: Strongwoman Jackie Young pulls a car along Ayr Main Street

Stevenston strongwoman Jackie Young pulled a car along Ayr Main Street to publicise the opening of ScotNursing’s new branch in Ayr. Carer Jackie finished second in the 2003 Strongest Woman competition.

Ardrossan and Saltcoats Herald: Fun day

A fantastic day was had by everyone who attended the Fun Day organised by Stevenston’s Family Support Group in 2003. With around 60 families at the event, kids of all ages loved the face-painting, circus workshops and soft play area.
