A WOMAN has appeared in court in connection with an incident at a supermarket in Ardrossan - after video footage emerged showing police tasering a suspect nearby.

Jennifer Frey, 35, submitted pleas of not guilty to four charges during a brief hearing at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court on Tuesday, September 12.

Her court appearance follows an incident at the Asda supermarket on Harbour Road the previous day.

Video footage emerged on social media which showed a woman being 'tasered' as she was surrounded by at least eight police officers.

It later emerged that cops had given chase after being called to a report of an incident at the supermarket.

Ms Frey, of Broomlands Gate in Irvine, is accused of behaving in a threatening or abusive manner which was likely to cause fear or alarm to two members of staff.

She is alleged to have shouted and sworn at staff, to have threatened violence, and to have produced a pair of pliers - which she then allegedly tried to strike staff with.

Another charge accuses her of stealing a quantity of alcohol from the store.

Ms Frey also faces a charge of possessing an offensive weapon - the aforementioned set of pliers - in Glasgow Street.

The final charge accuses her of behaving in a threatening or abusive manner by acting aggressively towards police, shouting, swearing, threatening violence and refusing to drop the pliers when asked to do so after allegedly placing the pliers at her neck.

She denies all the charges against her and is due to return to court later in the year.
