Kind-hearted members of a Kilwinning gym are putting on a mammoth fundraiser in aid of a local mental health charity.

Mission: FIT in Kilwinning will be hosting a 24-hour 'burpee-athon' as they look to raise funds for Megan's Space charity.

Megan’s Space was launched in 2019 after former St Matthew's Academy pupil Megan Copeland, a young woman from Irvine with a bright future and personality, loved by those around her, made the tragic choice to take her own life.

Kilwinning based gym Mission: FIT have now made it their own goal to help back such a worthy local cause.

They will be doing so at their unit on Alexandra Terrace from 6pm on Friday, October 27 until the same time the following day - and you have a chance to play your part.

The event will see the much loathed exercise completed for the full 24-hour period.

Though, of course, this will be a massive team effort with the Mission: FIT team splitting the 24 hours into 48 half-hour blocks - with at least one person needed for each slot, with up to 20 people able to take part in any given 30 minutes.

You have an opportunity to sign up and take part in any of these slots - and feature in the event which will be live-streamed on social media.

One of the gym’s owners, Roy Blakely, said: "Everyone who is able to can come down to our gym and nominate themselves, their friends and groups to take part and be on the live stream for 30 minutes.

"The idea is we have a continuous stream of our community doing burpees for the whole 24 hour period."

Already a number of local football sides, the local fire service and local vendors have confirmed they will be represented at the event - which will be a major test of endurance.

While if you are feeling a bit worn down afterwards, not to worry, Mission: FIT will be hosting a free wellness day on the Sunday after the event - which will be open to all gym members and participants.

A number of organisations and specialists will be coming to Kilwinning that day to offer a hand following the event.
