European powerlifting champion and wrestler Kara Shaw, from Saltcoats, has organised an IGWP show in Stevenston's St John's Chapel Hall on Saturday, November 11.

Businesswoman Kara, who also runs a podiatry clinic in Saltcoats, also started wrestling in recent years and has already made a name for herself in the ring.

As a powerlifter,  she became European champion as well as coming third at the British chamopionships in her powerlifting federation.

She is now in training for the world championships at ther start of November.

Kara said: "I have been wrestling since just before Covid and this year I have been on many shows.

"I suggested to my training facility in Glasgow, who also host shows, about doing one in Stevenston because there’s nothing like that in the Three Towns.

"So on the November we are hosting a show in St John’s Chapel Hall."

Kara first made headlines in 2019, when she was crowned British Powerlifting Union champion in her category.

She said at the time: "“I think it’s great that more women are weightlifting. It’s inspiring that there’s so many great female powerlifters out there.

"Everyone thinks it builds you up like a man, but it actually tones and sculpts your body. You see some of the female powerlifters and they’re so petite.

“I love it, it’s my life. I can spend two hours in the gym easily, it just flies by. On a Sunday I get my treats. I train and then I just go and get a pick and mix and a pizza.”
