West Kilbride Town Hall was the venue for a multi-charity Christmas sale in October 2003 and the Royal National Lifeboat Institution’s mascot Stormy Stan, who was promoting the Clyde Lifeboat Appeal, was a big hit with visitors.

Marking the 10th anniversary of the Saltcoats-based Connect Project, young trainees were presented with certificates marking their recent achievements in 2003.

But their special day was marred by the news that operators Developing North Ayrshire had gone bust, throwing the future of the training programme into jeopardy.

Ardrossan and Saltcoats Herald: Football legend Julie Fleeting paid a visit to Beith Primary in 2003

The girls at Beith Primary were delighted to see Scotland’s finest female footballer, Kilwinning’s Julie Fleeting (left), at the launch of one of the exciting new soccer centres at the infant school.

Apprentice Football Development coach Angela Robertson (right) was one of the organisers of the programme.

Ardrossan and Saltcoats Herald: chute

North Ayrshire’s popular mobile playground Tow-a-bout marked its 10th anniversary in October 2003 with a fun day at Auchenharvie Park.

First down the chute was Heather Niblock, who was part of the Stevenston Link-up Group, responsible for starting up the hugely successful venture.

Children at Gateside Primary in Beith celebrated Harvest Thanksgiving in October 2003 in a service led by Rev Fiona Ross and head teacher Mrs McGuigan.
