A STEVENSTON firebug who put New Year revellers at risk when he deliberately set light to a number of household items will find out his fate by the end of the year.

Thomas Dent pleaded guilty to two charges during a recent hearing at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court.

The 25-year-old, described in court papers as a prisoner at Barlinnie, must wait to find out his fate after admitting endangering the safety of nearby residents.

Dent admitted wilfully setting fire to “various household items” within a property in the town’s Glencairn Street on January 1, 2022.

The charge stated that after the fire took effect on the items, it caused damage to the building and “endangered the safety of residents” living in the property.

Dent also admitted a second charge of failing to turn up to a court hearing on May 30 this year.

He was returned to custody following his guilty pleas and will be brought back to court for sentencing later this year.
