POLICE say they will be patrolling the Kilwinning area after a fire-raising incident in the grounds of the town's historic Abbey.

The area has been a target for firebugs in the past, with a number of incidents reported within the grounds in recent years.

The latest incident took place on Monday, October 30, when Police Scotland say they were called out to a "small fire" which had been lit in the grounds of the Abbey.

On this occasion, no damage was caused to the Kilwinning landmark but officers say that further enquiries will be carried out in relation to the incident.

​A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 7.30pm on Monday, October 30, 2023, police received a report of a small fire being lit in the grounds of Kilwinning Abbey.

"There was no damage to the building. Enquiries are ongoing and patrols will be carried out in the local area.”
