A SALTCOATS church has confirmed the date that it will host its last Sunday service.

North Parish Church is one of two Church of Scotland buildings in the town which is due to close as a result of the local presbytery mission plan.

Worshippers from the church on Ivanhoe Drive will join the congregations from St Cuthbert's Church in Saltcoats and Kirkgate and Park churches in Ardrossan to form a new united charge named Ardrossan and Saltcoats Parish.

As part of these plans, both St Cuthbert's and North Parish buildings are due to close in the coming months.

This week, North Parish confirmed to members that the final Sunday service to ever be held at its current home will take place on Sunday, November 26.

Following this final service, members of the congregation can decide which of the two retained buildings they wish to attend moving forward.

Their memberships will also automatically transfer to the new united Ardrossan and Saltcoats Parish.

A letter to the congregation from the church's interim moderator Martin Thomson explained more about the final service, which they expect to be "tinged with sadness".

He added that he hopes the service can provide a fitting send-off for the building which members have attended faithfully over the years.

It said: "The last Sunday service in Saltcoats North Parish Church will take place on Sunday, November 26, at the usual time of 11am.

"We expect to be joined by some of the folks from the congregations with whom we will soon be united.

"Whilst this service will inevitably be tinged with sadness, it will also be an opportunity to celebrate and give thanks for all the years of experiencing God's blessing in the Saltcoats North sanctuary, and recall with gratitude all that took place within the building down the years."
