Stevenston's Kingdom Hall has been completely rebuilt - by a team of volunteers from the Jehovah's Witnesses.

Congregation members worked tirelessly for five months to reconstruct the hall, without the use of any contractors.

Starting back in early June, they tore up floors, took down ceilings and the building's roof - then reconstructed the new hall around the shell that remained.

And the stunning results are set to be fully revealed to the public at open days later this week.

The Kingdom Hall's Andrew Cochrane said: "This has been a five-month project in which the whole building was renovated.

"We removed all floors, ceilings, and the roof of the main building as well as the flat roof to the rear. In short, the building went back to a basic shell."

He revealed: "Over the last five months, the building has been completely renovated with all modern and up-to-date materials and fittings and complies with all the current regulations. It also has a new state-of-the-art fire alarm system."

Mr Cochrane hailed the quality of workmanship that was achieved by volunteers, both male and female, from their own, and neighbouring congregations.

Astonishingly, no outside contractors were involved in the project at all. The ladies and gents from the church groups did it all themselves.

Mr Cochrane said: "During the last five months we have had many comments from the general public when walking past our hall, who commented on how much was being achieved by female volunteers, as well as males.

"They also remarked how clean and tidy the site was during the renovation.

"We would like to thank North Ayrshire Council Planning and Building Control for their support in the development."

The two open days will be held on Friday, November 10 and Saturday, November 11, both from 12-2pm. All will be made welcome.
