IT has been more than three years in the making - but it appears The Metro in Saltcoats is about to open.

The owners of the much-loved Saltcoats nightclub have launched a hunt for stuff to help operate the Hamilton Street venue.

Many Three Towns residents will have fond memories of past days - and nights - down at The Metro, though if the venue's latest social media post is anything to go by, those days may not be in the past much longer.

At the beginning of last month, the Herald was given an exclusive look around the nightclub, as owners Gary Burns and Stevie Miller explained that the nightclub “will open this year”.

Under their ownership the Hamilton Street building has gone from a state of total disrepair to one that resembles the club’s heyday in the 80s and 90s - when some called it “the best nightclub in Scotland”.

The duo took on the building just before the first Covid lockdown, and later said they believed it was within six months of being "lost forever" - having been closed since 2011 and abandoned ever since.

But as the refurbishment - undertaken almost entirely by Gary and Stevie themselves, alongside their full-time jobs - the pair have now launched a hunt for new employees to help take the Metro back to the top.

The club are now advertising for an experienced bar manager to join their team - with the aim of opening “very soon”.

They said: “(We are) looking for someone that has experience working in a busy venue preferably a club of similar size!

“We’re pushing to open very very soon so be quick.”
