SANTA is best known for travelling around in his reindeer powered sleigh.

However, jolly Saint Nick will be using a very different mode of transport in a bid to spread Christmas cheer later this month.

He will be doing so, with the help of Stevenston man and lorry driver Kevin Agnew - who will be dressing up as the man in the big red suit on December 14 and 15.

The 50-year-old, who works delivering materials to building sites for Bedrock Plant Hire, will then be jumping in his work lorry, driving to different building sites across the nation, and gathering donations for charity.

Kevin will be setting out on the festive mission in a bid to raise funds for Cash For Kids - who support children going through challenging times - something which is particularly difficult over the Christmas period.

They support children across the west of Scotland and Glasgow, and Kevin is out to ensure he does everything he can to make sure everyone gets a slice of festive cheer.

Ardrossan and Saltcoats Herald: Kevin will be going around in his lorry dressed as Santa in a bid to raise cash for charity.

He said: "I chose to do this because there’s kids out there that will wake up on Christmas Day with nothing - not even a hot meal or heating.

"What inspired me was that thought of kids waking up Christmas Day with nothing.

"I just want to help make more awareness of the charity. Not all kids are as lucky as ours

"This charity helps put a smile on those kids faces at Christmas with a present and a hot meal."

This will not be the first time Kevin has run the charity appeal, having organised the same donation drive last year.

That time around, after some quick thinking and last-minute planning, he raised an amazing £727.

This year, he is more organised and is hoping not just to better that total but to break through the £1,000 barrier.

In his effort to do so, he is asking locals to get on board with his appeal, and is urging people to help out in any way that they can.

Kevin has placed donation tins around a number of shops in the Three Towns, and has also set up an online page where donations can be made.
