Tonight's last ferry sailing from Brodick to Ardrossan has been cancelled due to weather conditions.

Ferry company CalMac said adverse weather and sea swell conditions would mean the Arran ferry would remain in Brodick on Friday, December 8.

It also means the first sailing from Ardrossan on Saturday, December 9 will be cancelled.

CalMac revealed on their website this afternoon: "Due to adverse weather and sea swell conditions, the 7.20pm sailing from Brodick has been cancelled. The vessel will berth overnight in Brodick.

"On Saturday, December 9, as a result of the vessel berthing overnight in Brodick, the 7am sailing from Ardrossan has been cancelled. The service is expected to resume with the 8.20am sailing from Brodick."

The ferry company added: "Disrupting a sailing is a decision we do not take lightly because we know it will inconvenience our customers and the communities we serve.

"However, the safety of our customers and crew must come first.

"In this instance, the master of the vessel has judged it is necessary in response to the assessment of adverse weather conditions.

"We’ll keep customers informed should there be any further changes in connection to this route."
