Ferry sailings between Brodick and Ardrossan are expected to resume this afternoon - weather permitting.

Operators CalMac were forced to cancel today's 11.05am sailing from Brodick and the 12.30pm sailing from Ardrossan due to "continuing adverse weather".

The company hopes to resume the service with the 1.55pm sailing from Brodick unless conditions deteriorate.

And with forecasters predicting that winds will strengthen again overnight, the 7.20pm sailing from Brodick on Friday and the 7am crossing from Ardrossan on Saturday have been cancelled.

A spokesperson warned: "Sailings remains at heightened risk of cancellation later in the day due to adverse weather."

Earlier this week, CalMac warned travellers heading to Arran for Christmas to travel early.

Ayrshire has been feeling the effects of Storm Pia this week, with strong winds hitting the region.

Winds of around 50mph were expected as a yellow warning for strong winds was put in place by the Met Office earlier this week.
