Ferry sailings to Arran have faced disruption for most of the day - but  the service is set to resume this afternoon.

CalMac have confirmed the 1.55pm sailing from Brodick to Ardrossan will take place.

But they warned there could be a delay to berthing the MV Caledonian Isles at Ardrossan due to tidal conditions.

And the ferry operator also says that sailings for the rest of the day remain at heightened risk of cancellation due to the stormy weather.

A CalMac spokesperson said: "The service will resume with the 1.55pm departure from Brodick. However, berthing may be delayed at Ardrossan due to tidal conditions.

"Sailings for the remainder of the day are at heightened risk of disruption or cancellation at short notice due to adverse weather, particularly sailings later in the day.

"Timber and livestock will be carried on a sailing by sailing basis due to the adverse weather forecast."

An extra sailing was provided on Wednesday evening to clear a backlog of traffic waiting to travel to Arran, though the resulting impact on the ferry crew's hours of rest meant the first sailing on Thursday - the 8.20am from Brodick - departed an hour late.

The company added: "We’ll keep customers informed should there be any further changes in connection to this route.

"If you’ve not already done so, download our app or follow our Twitter @CalMac_Updates so we can provide you with timely updates, with the latest information we have available.
