AN ARDROSSAN man has appeared in court following a report that a car in the town had been stolen.

Marcus Logan, 25, made no plea during a brief appearance at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court on Boxing Day.

Mr Logan, described in court papers as a resident of Ardrossan, was arrested and charged by police on December 22 following the reported theft of a BMW from an address in the town's Castle Road at around 5.40am that day.

The Herald understands the vehicle was later found in Central Avenue, and that Mr Logan was traced in connection with the incident.

Images shared with the Herald showed major damage to the garden wall of a property in Central Avenue.

The 25-year-old faced eight charges, more than half of them relating to alleged driving offences, when he appeared in court on December 26.

He is accused of taking a vehicle without the consent of its owner, of driving the same vehicle dangerously, and of doing so while under the influence of drugs or alcohol, without the appropriate licence and without insurance.

Three further charges allege that Mr Logan behaved in a threatening or abusive manner, assaulted a police officer or officers, and tried to resist, obstruct or hinder police in the execution of their duties.

Mr Logan was committed for further examination and released on bail; he will return to court at a later date.
