The Arran ferry service made a bold return this afternoon - but the bad news is sailings between Brodick and Ardrossan are set to be hit by stormy seas again tonight.

CalMac have announced that due to deteriorating weather, the 7.20pm sailing departing Brodick has been cancelled.

And the 4.40pm sailing departing Brodick this afternoon and 6pm sailing departing Ardrossan are at "heightened risk of cancellation" and will be reviewed when the ferry's current crossing berths in Brodick.

Due to the MV Caledonian Isles berthing in Brodick tonight (Thursday), the 7am sailing departing from Ardrossan has now been cancelled.

Weather permitting, the service will resume with the 8.20am ferry departing Brodick.

CalMac added: "This service is liable to disruption or cancellation at short notice due to adverse weather. This is in relation to a forecast of strong winds."
