COUNCIL bosses are being urged to work with others to find a fix for flooding problems in Kilbirnie.

The town was badly hit by floods during December, with incidents in Briery Court, Dalry Road and the Loadingbank area reported.

St Bridget's Primary School was also forced to close due to flooding issues.

Independent Garnock Valley councillor Donald L. Reid now says he plans to raise the problem with the chief executive of North Ayrshire Council (NAC).

But Cllr Reid says that sorting the problem will require input from more than NAC officials alone.

In his weekly blog, the councillor wrote: "North Ayrshire Council (roads, housing and flooding team) and Scottish Water are aware of these issues and addressing them.

"It does take time to check drains for blockages, and often this involves engaging outside contractors.

"Special cameras are used to assess where the problem lies, very often with collapsed drains.

"Scottish Water advise there is also a serious issue of capacity of the main Garnock Valley sewer at the Loadingbank area.

"I meet the chief executive of NAC on a monthly basis to discuss issues. I will be raising these important issues at our January 2024 meeting to see what co-ordinated action can be taken to overcome this recurring flooding problem at Loadingbank and Brierty Court, as well as Dalry Road.

"I should also caution that it will not be a simple or speedy fix, but if NAC and their services including roads, housing (also private landlords) and flooding, and Scottish Water can work together, there is likely to be a better outcome.

"NAC has declared a climate emergency, so they do need to play a leading role in solving flooding issues impacting on residents."
