BARRMILL Jolly Beggars Burns Club are celebrating their 80th anniversary this year.

The big occasion will be marked at the club's annual Burns Supper on Friday, January 19.

The event will be held in Beith Bowling Club, where the toast to the Immortal Memory will be proposed by Archie Chalmers of Stewarton, whilst the Toast to the Lassies will be proposed by Malkie Blair of Kilbirnie.

Other contributions to the evening will be made by club members.

The club was formed in the village of Barrmill in 1944 to allow men returning from wartime service to come together with other villagers and celebrate the life and times of Robert Burns.

The original members included local farmers, quarrymen and mill workers. The first president of the club was John Cashmore, manager of a local quarry.

Since its inception, the club has successfully held an annual Burns Supper and a St Andrew’s Dinner.

Tickets for the 80th anniversary Burns Supper cost £15 and are available to buy from secretary Donald L Reid by calling 01505 503801.
