Fans of a Three Towns DJ are campaigning to get his album to the top of the charts after his terminal cancer diagnosis.

We previously reported that Mallorca Lee, the founding member of the Ayrshire group Ultra Sonic, announced to his fans on Monday that he had been diagnosed with terminal cancer.

The band is known for its hits Obsession, Love Me Right and Angels and has featured regularly on DJ George Bowie's popular GBX sets on radio and in clubs across the country.

Now fellow musicians and nightclubs are calling on fans to buy Mallorca's album The Best of Ultra Sonic to get the former Auchenharvie Academy pupil to number one on the charts after three decades.

Fellow musician Ross Ferguson is among those trying to get the songs to the top of the charts.

Posting on social media, he said: "Some of the best times in my life were shared with Mallorca Lee. The last few days have been rough and we can all feel helpless at a time like this. This is something we can do.

"Please support this campaign to get this [Ultra Sonic] album as far up the charts as possible, show him the love he has shown all of us over the years."

And nightclubs across Scotland including Savoy and House Every Weekend are supporting the cause.

They said: "Help Mallorca Lee reach Number 1. We're nearly there guys in only a few hours incredible effort from everyone.

"The big man is sitting at number 19 on iTunes. Get in... what a buzz."

Sharing the devastating news on social media, Mallorca said: "I've been diagnosed with terminal cancer, the doctor said it could be a matter of months.

"I apologise for not telling all of my family and friends individually, it just breaks my heart a thousand times and I don't have the strength to go through it all over and over again.

"I love you all, the last 10 years have been the best of them all, it really has been wonderful.

"Forgive me if I don’t answer your calls and messages, I’m still processing, even this post feels like someone else is writing it.

"Love, that’s all we ever really have, our one true currency, so tell the ones around you what they mean to you, every day."

In a touching tribute, George Bowie said: "Can't imagine what you and the family are going through mate. Absolutely broken by this news."
