The Saltcoats, Ardrossan and Stevenston branch of the Royal British Legion Scotland will hold a short service to mark Holocaust Day at the weekend.

Members and friends will gather at Saltcoats War Memorial at 11am on Saturday, January 27, to remember all those lost in the Holocaust and in recent genocides such as those in Rwanda, Bosnia, and Cambodia.

This year's theme is The Fragility of Freedom.

International Holocaust Day was established in 2005 by the United Nations as a day of remembrance for all victims of genocide.

The date of January 27 was chosen to commemorate the date when the Auschwitz concentration camp was liberated by the Red Army in 1945.

All who wish to attend Saturday's memorial are most welcome.
