THE votes of young people from across North Ayrshire have been counted in the Scottish Youth Parliament election - but they, and the people standing to represent them, will have to wait for a few more days to find out the result.

Voting had been taking place to elect MSYPs to represent Cunninghame North and Cunninghame South, with the final count taking place at the Redburn Community Hub in Irvine on Saturday, January 27.

North Ayrshire Council has revealed that a total of 4,200 votes were received. Of these, 50 per cent were from North Ayrshire's secondary school population.

Four candidates are contesting each of the two seats.

The votes should have been counted, and the winners announced, back in November, but a Scotland-wide problem with the Young Scot e-voting platform forced a postponement until the new year and a decision to conduct the ballot entirely by paper votes.

The results will be announced at Saltcoats Town Hall at a special event on the evening of Monday, February 5.

The Cunninghame South candidates are Emma Burns, Lee Fitzpatrick, Freya Fitzsimmons and Brooke Ramsay, while in Cunninghame North the candidates are Logan Gilmour, Rhyan Gorrie, Emma Henderson and Adam Johnson.
