Ardrossan and Saltcoats Herald: Gymathon

A Kilwinning man who “died” following an horrific road accident raised thousands of pounds for brain-damaged children.

Battling Matthew Carpenter, 27, had stopped breathing at the scene of the crash, and after being resuscitated just in time by ambulance crews he spent a month in a deep coma before fighting his way back to fitness.

Matthew and his stepdad Mark joined five other volunteers at Dalry’s MRC Fitness studio to complete a gymathon marathon raising a grand total of £4000.

Ardrossan and Saltcoats Herald: Beith

A firm show of support by Brian Wilson MP encouraged furious Beith residents in their fight to oppose a building firm’s controversial proposal to turn Trearne Quarry into a landfill site.

The former energy minister backed the Trearne Project, a local campaign group who aim to protect, promote and enhance the area.

The Maritime Volunteer Service, based at Hill Street Industrial Estate in Ardrossan, took delivery of a new all-purpose vehicle in February 2004.

Members of the Custom Bike Group based at Ardrossan’s Three Towns Motor Project in Central Avenue took delivery of Young Scot cards in February 2004, which entitled them to all sorts of discounts up and down the country.
