The main ferry service to Arran will continue to operate from Troon Harbour until Thursday, CalMac have confirmed.

Strong Easterly winds meant the MV Isle of Arran could not operate from Ardrossan harbour.

Shuttle buses will run between Ardrossan and Troon harbours until Thursday at least.

Meanwhile, Ardrossan harbour owners Peel Ports have taken the opportunity to do repair work on the fenders at the Arran berth in order to improve its resilience.

A CalMac spokesperson said: "The defected fender has been removed to make repairs and we are currently waiting on a timescale from Peel Ports.

"Due to this and combined with forecasted weather conditions in relation to wind direction from Wednesday onwards, we will continue to operate to Troon.

"During this time we will take this opportunity to train and familiarise our vessel and port staff with our Troon operations."

An update on sailings from Friday onwards is expected this Wednesday.

CalMac urged travellers not to arrive at Troon harbour without a booking for the ferry.

Foot passengers are asked to park their cars in Ardrossan and travel by bus provided. The bus will transport passengers through Troon terminal and on to the vessel. Transport will be provided to Troon via bus service. There is no car parking facility or drop off/waiting area at Troon.

Foot passengers with bookings can also travel to Troon by train and a shuttle bus will be provided to transport customers to Troon ferry terminal.

Any booked foot passengers travelling directly to Troon port will require to wait at the bus stop by the car check-in booth and catch the bus to the ferry. Please note that you must already have purchased a Troon – Brodick ticket.

The bus service will operate to Troon railway station, then onto Ardrossan for passengers with cars parked at Ardrossan.

The following ferry timetable will operate until Thursday (February 15): Depart Troon – 7am, 11.10am, 4.10pm. Depart Brodick – 8.50am, 1.5pm, 6pm.

CalMac added: "Port office facilities are not currently available. However, toilet facilities will be available at Arran House in Troon.

"Please be advised that during this period of disruption, the ferry times may not connect with Island bus services. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause."
