An announcement on the return of Ardrossan harbour to action has been delayed for at least a day.

The ferry service to Brodick has been running from Troon since Thursday, February 8.

Initially the diversion was the result of forecasts for strong easterly winds which made berthing at Ardrossan impossible.

With the MV Isle of Arran working out of the South Ayrshire port, Ardrossan harbour owners Peel Port decided to carry out repair work to the fenders at their Arran berth on the mainland to improve resilience.

A defective fender was found which meant CalMac had to extend the Troon diversion into the first four days of this week.

CalMac were hoping to announce details of ferry services from Friday onwards on the afternoon of Wednesday, February 14.

But the ferry operator now says it's been advised by Peel Ports that the fender has been removed to make repairs.

CalMac says it now expects to be able to give a further update on services from Friday onwards at around 3pm on Thursday, February 15.

A spokesperson said: "We are currently waiting on a timescale from Peel Ports. Due to this and combined with forecasted weather conditions in relation to wind direction from Wednesday onwards, we will continue to operate to Troon.

"During this time we will take this opportunity to train and familiarise our vessel and port staff with our Troon operations.

"Peel Ports have advised that repairs to the fenders at the Arran berth in Ardrossan are ongoing and an update regarding service from Friday, February 16 will be provided at 3pm on Thursday,  February 15."

Shuttle buses have been running between Ardrossan and Troon harbour in the meantime. Check the CalMac website for bus and ferry timetables.
