A HARDWARE business on Arran could welcome additional staff if an expansion plan for the shop is agreed.

Home and Gardens Ltd has submitted an application to North Ayrshire Council to extend their shop from the rear to improve staff facilities and a larger area to display products.

It could also bring an additional three jobs to the island if given the green light by the local authority.

The business in Brodick has been running for 30 years selling pots and pans, kitchen equipment and gardening supplies.

In a supporting statement, which can be viewed on the local authority's website, it stated that the business was "a lifeline" for islanders during the Covid-19 pandemic.

"Home and Gardens, Arran, Ltd currently employs 5-6 people.

"Over the last few years, it has become very apparent that more space is required for the company to continue to grow and flourish. The proposed extension is to the rear of the existing store and will be out of sight from Brodick front.

"[It] is a successful business on Arran and as a result of this, more useable space is required for both storage and sales. The business has currently outgrown the space it is in, and this would allow for extra stock to be put into the store.

"With the closure of the builder’s yard in Lamlash, some of the items in stock will become even more important."
