Pupils from a North Ayrshire primary school have been driving home awareness of road safety as they launch a new campaign.

Youngsters at Dalry Primary School have become increasingly concerned about unsafe parking in their school car park.

The primary school car park can be a very busy place and the main concern that was raised was that unsafe parking has been putting pupils at risk.

Cars are often parked near zebra crossings, in bus lanes, one bends or in some cases cars are blocking nearby streets containing sheltered housing.

Kids at the school were keen to send a message that this is not acceptable, and highlight the ways that more can be done to avoid this.

The campaign was launched on the morning of Wednesday, February 28, with pupils taking to the car park to provide information to parents and carers.

With the help of teachers and the support of the parent council, pupils rallied around and issued leaflets to explain their concerns.

They have also been supported by the nearby Lidl store who have allowed their car park to be used for school parking for a 'park and stroll' approach which can help clear congestion.

A school spokesperson commented: "Pupils are looking forward to being out in the car park continuing to raise awareness of their safety at the start and end of the day.

"A huge thank you to our rights respecting ambassadors, staff and family members who have supported the start of our car park campaign."
