Participants in North Ayrshire's Beat the Street Active Nation game are invited to Go Wild this week.

The themed week aims to encourage local residents to explore their local parks, waterways and green spaces. which helps improve mental wellbeing as well as physical health.

Players are invited to score bonus points at special events including a guided walk on Friday, March 8 from 1-2pm at Lochshore Park. There are double points on Beat Boxes 127 and 213.

Alan Burns, principal teacher at St Anthony's Primary School, said: “It is safe to say Beat the Street has gripped our school.

"It is amazing to see so many pupils, parents, carers, grandparents out enjoying the fresh air and earning points for our school.

"On a recent Whole School Walk we managed to amass over 20,000 points and the enthusiasm that day from all in our school community was tangible. We would love for it continue beyond the end of March.”

Beat the Street Active Nation is delivered by Intelligent Health in partnership with North Ayrshire Council and Argyll and Bute Council. It is funded by Paths for All's Active Nation Fund.

Councillor Tony Gurney, North Ayrshire's cabinet member for green environment and economy, said: “We’re delighted to support the Beat the Street programme which aims to support Scotland’s ambitions for a nation where most shorter journeys are made on foot or by bike.

"It is fantastic to see the impact of the competition where noticeably more people are out on the pavements and exploring new areas together.

"It’s amazing how we tend to stick to the same tried and tested routes and how the game has opened up the idea of exploring the area on foot, which reveals new places, green spaces, waterways and parks you might not have known about, even if you’ve lived here for years.”
