FURTHER speed bumps have been added to a stretch of road between Saltcoats and Stevenston.

The traffic calming measures were initially placed on the B780, directly outside the entrance to Auchenharvie Academy, with four speed bumps put in place - two on either side.

They were introduced after we reported on a local mum's fury at North Ayrshire Council after she said her daughter "almost lost her life" when she was struck by a car outside the school.

The mum, and the school's parent council, voiced concern at a malfunctioning 20mph speed limit flashing sign which was supposed to flash when pupils were in the area but was no longer working.

When the concerns were reported in March 2023, North Ayrshire Council said the age of the sign would make it difficult to source replacement parts - but promised to carry out an assessment of the area to see what traffic calming measures were required and were feasible.

The first speed bumps appeared eight months later.

And now a further two speed bumps have been added - two more on each side of the road - in the Canal Street area, in front of Harvies Leisure Centre, making eight in all.
