A PETROL station in Saltcoats has been targeted in an attempted robbery, say police.

Cops say a man entered the premises, threatened a male member of staff and demanded money from the till.

The man left empty handed and ran off up the High Road towards a large superstore. The member of staff was left badly shaken by the incident.

From enquiries so far, officers have established the suspect walked down High Road prior to the crime taking place.

He is described as white, around 5 feet 8 inches in height, with a slim build. He was wearing grey jogging trousers, a black padded jacket and white and grey Converse trainers.

He wore a surgical mask to try and conceal his face.

Officers are continuing to check CCTV footage for any further detail on the suspect.

Detective Constable Daniel Small said: “I am appealing to anyone who was in the area around the time of the incident.

"I would also like to ask taxi drivers and other road users to check their dash cam equipment as it could have captured the man as he was walking towards the fuel station.

"If anyone has any information regarding this incident, please get in touch with us, no matter how insignificant you think it might be.”

Anyone with information is asked to call Police Scotland via 101, quoting incident number 0283 of 17 March, 2024.
