Police are continuing their enquiries following a major incident in Kilwinning which led to two arrests.
Neighbours reported large numbers of officers - some of them armed - in Fergushill Road, Corsehill, early on Monday, March 25, as well as a police helicopter circling overhead.
One resident claimed officers had rushed to the scene following a "firearms incident".
Road blocks were put in place around the area just after 8.30am.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 8.30am on Monday, March, 25, 2024, police were called to the Fergushill Road area of Kilwinning, following a report of a disturbance.
"A 25-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident, whilst a further 25-year-old man has been arrested in connection with outstanding matters.
"This was a contained incident and further enquiries are ongoing.”
One resident said: "We were told that someone had a gun at the scene - though it may well have been an air gun. We just don't know yet.
"The whole area was locked down for some time and there were armed officers there too.
"They put road blocks around Fergushill Road and the surrounding areas.
"There was a helicopter flying over the area too, so they were definitely taking it very seriously."
