AN AYRSHIRE MSP has called for a full debate in the Scottish Parliament on the future of Ardrossan Harbour and the Ardrossan-Brodick ferry service.

In a parliamentary motion, Katy Clark highlighted the longstanding delays to the Ardrossan Harbour redevelopment project and the port’s importance to the local economy.

She also reiterated calls for Ardrossan to be retained as the mainland port for the Arran service, weeks after transport minister Fiona Hyslop was accused of failing to provide that assurance.

Ms Clark, Scottish Labour MSP for West Scotland, said: “I asked the Scottish Government to confirm Ardrossan will be retained as the mainland port for the Arran route weeks ago in Parliament.

"That assurance was not provided and we are still waiting for the refreshed business case to redevelop the harbour that was promised months ago.

“It’s seven years and seven transport ministers since Ardrossan won the campaign to keep the ferry service to Arran.

"The service is a key reason Ardrossan retains rail stations. Its traffic enables local businesses to stay afloat, and its location is crucial for supply chains.

“Communities remain extremely concerned about the lack of clarity and the potential impact of Ardrossan losing the service.

"Keeping it here is what islanders, ferry users and the workforce are demanding and what I will continue to call for. I will be making that case if a parliamentary debate is selected.”
