The Conservative candidate in next month's Kilwinning by-election has vowed to work hard for the people of the town if he is elected.

Kilwinning resident Chris Lawler has been selected to stand as the Scottish Conservative and Unionist candidate in the upcoming vote, called following the death of his party colleague, Councillor John Glover, in February.

The by-election will take place on May 9.

Chris said: "I am delighted to have been chosen to stand in the upcoming by-election. As a resident, I have a keen interest in the local area and look forward to hearing what matters to other residents of Kilwinning.

"It is important that we listen to people across the ward, from the town to rural areas. If elected I would work hard for local people as the late Councillor John Glover did. It would be an honour to carry on his legacy.'

David Rocks, chairman of the North Ayrshire and Arran Conservatives, said: "Chris has been a member of the party and local association for many years and I know he will work hard to engage with the residents of Kilwinning during the campaign.

"John Glover liked to help people with day-to-day matters and Chris has a similar interest in rural communities, local education and small businesses. We have a positive local candidate who will be a champion for those who live and work in Kilwinning."

Other candidates in the running to succeed Councillor Glover are Mary Hume (Labour), Sheila Gibson (SNP), Ruby Kirkwood (Scottish Liberal Democrats) and Ian Charles Gibson (Scottish Family Party).
