Local youngsters got the chance to hone their skills at the refurbished driving range at Auchenharvie Golf Course. The upgrade coincided with a substantial investment in the sport by North Ayrshire Leisure.

Keen cyclist Robbie Briggs, 55, from Beith set off on amazing trek the length of Great Britain to help provide clean, safe drinking water for developing countries. Robbie, who ran a furniture making business, would cycle from Land’s End to John O’Groats.

Ardrossan and Saltcoats Herald: Baton

A group of baton twirlers from Kilwinning triumphed in the 2004 European Championships. Six girls from Jo’s Troupe battled it out against athletes from 10 other countries at the competition, which was held at the Meadowbank Sports Centre in Edinburgh. The dancers, Symone McEvoy, Alanna Dardas, Ashleigh McTaggart, Kim Couzin, Samantha Finnigan and Lauren Walker, all came home with a medal after finishing third in the team freestyle final, where they competed as Vision.

Children from across North Ayrshire visited their local library during the Easter holiday. At the Saltcoats branch 24 kids took part in an Easter egg hunt and made origami bunnies and birds.


Ardrossan and Saltcoats Herald: Young footballers from Hayocks had a big win at Easter 2004

Hayocks Primary School’s football teams were celebrating after a brilliant performance at Ardeer Thistle’s fun day. The A-team where crowned champions of the inter-school tournament while the B-Team finished in a third place. They are pictured here with delighted coaches Sammy McKee and Craig Moon.
