North Ayrshire libraries are encouraging people to learn guitar for free this summer.

This is part of a new initiative called the We Make Music Instrument Libraries project that allows people to borrow acoustic guitars from the Kilbirnie, Kilwinning, Largs, and Stevenston libraries.

Councillor Alan Hill, cabinet member for Islands and Communities, said: “A great distraction and proven to release endorphins and promote creative thinking, learning to play guitar has a host of benefits.

“The project is just one of many local initiatives out there to help residents learn new skills and look after their health and wellbeing.

“The We Make Music Instrument Libraries project is a unique learning opportunity in partnership with the Council to do just this… Much like borrowing a book from the library, borrowing and learning guitar is very easy to do."

He said non-library members can join online at north-ayrshire.gov.uk.

The team will provide an acoustic guitar, a carry case, and details of how to access the online tutorial guide.
