The June 29 parades take place on the same day as the annual Boyne celebration parade held by the County Grand Lodge of Ayrshire, Renfrewshire and Argyll, which this year is taking place in Gourock.

Public procession notices are submitted to North Ayrshire Council every month, detailing possible events such as parades, though unlike other applications, these do not require a licence.

The council can only prohibit a procession for specified reasons laid down by legislation. These reasons generally relate to public order. They cannot prohibit a procession because the views of the participants are controversial.

Following the submissions of these notifications the forms are sent Police Scotland and the North Ayrshire roads dpartment for their comments.

Police Scotland will contact the organiser to discuss and agree the procession's route.

They will submit a report to the council's licensing office and, if there is a positive response, the council will issue a letter confirming that the procession can take place.
