A NUMBER of GP practices in Ayrshire will be closing for a part day later this month.

It comes as staff at the medical centres participate in Protected Learning Time (PLT), which allows them to carry out staff training for the whole practice team.

This will be taking place in various centres throughout afternoons in June, meaning the practices will be closed during these hours.

NHS Ayrshire and Arran have now released a full list of affected practices, and are asking patients to take note.

The first tranche of branch closures is on Tuesday, June 18, with the second to follow on Thursday, June 20 and the last on Wednesday, June 26.

All listed practices will be closed from 1pm until 5.30pm on the dates listed.

During these afternoons the Ayrshire Urgent Care Service will provide urgent care and support to patients of practices which are closed.

Information on how to access advice from a GP will be made available on the participating GP practice's telephone messaging systems, on practice websites, and in notices on the practice doors.

Patients or community pharmacies who require to contact a participating GP practice urgently during the time they are closed for PLT should call the Ayrshire Urgent Care Service on 01563 826930.

GP practices not listed on specific days will remain open and patients should contact their practice in the normal way.
