Who can you spot in these Herald pics from 10 years ago?
Pedal power helped Ardeer Thistle FC manager Derek Cook and his friends raise more than £3500 for a school holiday summer club. Derek got on his bike to take part in the Five Ferries Challenge, which started at Wemyss Bay at 9am and finished in Ardrossan at 8pm the same day.
Stagecoach said a fire that destroyed a school bus on the A78 north of Ardrossan in June 2014 was caused by an ‘electrical fault’. There was no one was on board apart from the driver and one other occupant, who both suffered some minor smoke inhalation.
Ardrossan Academy held its own Commonwealth Games track and field events ahead of the Games in Glasgow. S2 pupils and four P7 pupils from each of the clusters, including Stanley Primary, above, took part in the event.
Ninety-year-old Beith man Jackie Clark blasted the condition of the “wavy pavement” on the B777 between Willowyard and Crawfield. Jackie, who used a disability scooter, said: “Travelling on my buggy on this route is like being on a mini fairground ride – up and down, up and down – along its entire route.”
The Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust Fun Run at Eglinton Park was a roaring success with people from all over Ayrshire attending. Councillor Donald Reid, organiser Suzanne Fernando and the Segdoune Royal Party counted down to start the event.
