POLICE have launched a manhunt in Kilwinning after a report of an assault on a teenager outside a town centre pub.
Officers made attempts to trace the suspect in the case following the incident on the night of Friday, August 16.
It is understood that the person "ran off" in possession of a bladed weapon following the alleged incident.
Locals reported a heavy police presence across the town as officers looked to track down the suspect.
Eyewitnesses reported seeing and hearing a police helicopter searching over large parts of Kilwinning.
Others stated that officers were seen searching around the gardens of homes in the Pennyburn area.
Police Scotland have since confirmed that enquiries are still ongoing to trace the suspect.
However, following their search of the area a bladed weapon has been found.
A force spokesperson said: “Around 9.50pm on Friday, August 16, 2024, police received a report of a 17-year-old man having been assaulted outside licenced premises in Main Street, Kilwinning.
It was also reported that the person responsible had ran off and was in possession of a bladed weapon.
“Officers conducted a search of the area and a bladed weapon was recovered.
"Enquiries are ongoing to trace the suspect.”
