Stevenston boxer Jamie McIlroy, 18, a former pupil of Auchenharvie Academy, made his professional debut as a light-welterweight in Kilmarnock. His brother, George, 20, had already turned pro winning his first three fights, while younger brother Hugh, 14, had already won Scottish and Western District titles. They are pictured with their dad and trainer Hugh.
Cunninghame Housing Association tenants Hugh and Andrea Duncan, from Putyan Avenue in Dalry, were presented with the winner’s cup for the best-kept garden in 2004.
Kilwinning’s Segdoune Queen for 2004 was joined by her royal party, community organisers, and local politicians at the Whitehirst Park Fun Day that September.
RSPB Lochwinnoch picked up a VisitScotland tourism gold award. Local resident and River City star Carmen Pieraccini joined the RSPB’s Jen Walker and VisitScotland tourism manager Andrea Nicholas for the presentation in 2004.
Beith’s best known businessman butcher Tom Blackwood, 76, hung up his hat for the last time in September 2004 when he retired.
Gateside Primary School was in full bloom in 2004 when Douglas Boatman of the local Horticultural Society came in to judge the winners of a begonia-growing competition.
