Love Island host Maya Jama has entered the villa for the first time this summer, revealing to the islanders they wouldn't be choosing who they want to couple up with during the beginning episode.

The TV presenter and radio DJ arrived wearing a white crochet dress and told the first handful of this year’s cast including Ruchee Gurung, Ella Thomas, Mitchel Taylor, Jess Harding and André Furtado that it is in fact the public who have chosen.

Both five boys and girls entered the villa in Mallorca together instead of all boys or all girls at once.

Who are the first 5 couples of Love Island 2023?

The first couple announced by Maya was Jess and George Fensom. Jess wore a dazzling green bikini and said she liked a guy with “Turkey teeth”. She described George as a “handsome boy”.

The second match was between Catherine Agbaje from Dublin and André. Catherine said in the villa she will be “competitive” as she looks for love.

Mitchel who was welcomed into the villa wearing the “red shorts of love” was paired with musical performer Molly Marsh from Doncaster. She said her type was someone with a “cheeky personality and cheeky bum” as she hopes to find a husband.

Ruchee was then partnered with Medhi Edno who says he knows how to “treat a lady”.

Ella was coupled up with Tyrique Hyde who revealed he is deaf in his right ear, as the final pairing.
