WINTON have returned to the top of the Ayrshire District league, but only after nearly giving Lugar the chance to bring themselves back into the game with a late revival in the second half.
Both sides have been promotion contenders for the past few years, but Winton who had beaten Lugar at Rosewell earlier in the season were far better than their visitors than the scoreline reflects despite a stunning hat-trick from David Jardine, who had came on as a substitute for Lugar.
Winton had top scorer Paul Stewart on the bench, however Scott Adam showed his all round ability by leading the front-line for Winton and bagging a hat-trick.
Both sides had early chances. Lugar's new signing from Kello, Russell picked up a stray defensive clearance just outside the box but flashed a shot wide of the post. For the full story see this week's Ardrossan and Saltcoats Herald.
