INVERNESS CALEY THISTLE 1

KILMARNOCK 1

SPIRITED Killie bagged what could be an important point, although this was a game they could have won.

The result sees them climb six points above Hamilton in the playoff spot, as they gear up to host Rangers at Rugby Park tonight (Wednesday).

Interim manager Lee McCulloch was encouraged with the display and said: "On reflection, it is a good point on the road. We could have nicked it in the end with some corners and set-plays but I think overall a draw is a fair result. We finished the game with seven teenagers playing, so that just goes to show how young our squad is, but it is definitely getting better,"

Caley began well and had claims for a penalty when Brad McKay appeared to be bundled to the ground by Conor Sammon in 10 minutes.

However nine minutes later, McKay mis-timed a challenge on Jordan Jones and the referee Bobby Madden pointed to the penalty spot with Kris Boyd sending Fon Williams the wrong way.

The hosts were back in the game in 25 minutes when David Raven's cross rebounded off a Killie player and Billy Mckay fired a 12-yard shot in off the right-hand post.

Just seconds before half-time only a last-ditch tackle from Gary Warren denied goalscorer Boyd.

After the break Sean Longstaff had a shot blocked and the rebound broke to Jones whose shot was parried by Williams.
