PREMIER Division champions Beith are hoping for another money-spinning run in the William Hill Scottish Cup as they make a return to the top competition this weekend.

They make the long trip to Castle Douglas to face South of Scotland League champions Threave Rovers in the First Preliminary Round of the national event on Saturday.

In 2016-17 they went all the way to the third round of the top event, only to lose 6-0 at home to heavily favoured Championship team Morton at Bellsdale Park.

Now they are hoping for another extended stay in the showpiece competition.

Manager Johnny Millar said: "We're looking forward to the game but have to focus on our league match at home to Cambuslang on Wednesday, it won't be easy.

"Our coach Tam Miller watched Threave on Saturday, so we know a bit about them. They lost 1-0 but are not a bad side and have won the league a few times. If we play as well as I know we can hopefully we will get through.

"It would be good to have another run in the cup after we played Morton a couple of years ago. We see the Scottish Cup as a bonus for winning the league and look forward to the game."

Winners of the tie will host Lothian Thistle Hutchison Vale in the Second Preliminary Round.

Meanwhile Ardrossan Winton Rovers boss Stevie Wilson heaped praise on his team after they opened their McBookie League One campaign with a 7-2 demolition of hosts Glasgow Perthshire in Possil Park.

He said: "One of the most pleasing things about the game was that we kept our discipline, despite some off-the-ball things Perthshire getting involved in and I know that's something we have to improve on from last season.

"But the second half performance has to be the best so far this season as we were so clinical and scored six goals. We took our chances really well."

Winton host Port Glasgow Juniors tonight (Wednesday) and on Saturday make the long trip to Ladywell Stadium to face Maybole Juniors.

The manager added: "We only won two games at home all season we want to make Winton Park a fortress and make sure we take the three points on Wednesday.

"Maybole are a good young side and I played them with Irvine Vics last season but we must go down there and look to win the game."
