IT was a typically cold, wet December day in Kilmarnock as a small handful of North Ayrshire Athletics Club representatives made the short journey over to the Scott Ellis playing fields for the Scottish Athletics West District Cross Country Championships. Competition was fierce with success at this event used for selection for the Scottish Cross Country Championships inter district race which this year will be held in Stirling in early 2019.

The U13 girls event saw Adele Street, Aiobha Ballard, Rana Tatar all run really well, with Adele finishing just outside the medals in fifth which helped them pick up sixth team overall and West District Team selection for Adele. The U13 boys also had three runners with Harris McNicol, Dylan Gee and Aiden McWhirter all doing themselves and the club proud with great performances.

In the U15 girls competition, Niamh Murphy run a great race with a top 10 finish with Mary Jane McInally who was in the first year of the age group just a bit behind. Niamh should also have done enough to make the west district team selection giving the club two runners at this prestigious event. Peter Bradshaw ran a great race and finished in the top 20 of the under-17 race.

Well done from club officials to all athletes involved and their coaches.
