A THREE towns sports club was celebrating this week after a superb showing from it's members at a national competition.

The Auchenharvie Ice Dance & Figure Skating Club had six skaters and two affiliate members competing at the 2018 British Championships.

Louise Falconer (14) Lucy Findlay (14) Lily Thomson (13) Libby Raeside ( 13) Lauryn Fox, 14, and Luke McCallum (14) headed to the six-day event in Sheffield.

They qualified for the competition, which ran from November 26 to December 1 after good performances in figure skating open competitions during the year.

Ardrossan Academy pupil Louise, of Kilwinning, scooped bronze in the Advanced Novice Ladies Category, as did Greenwood Academy pupil Luke, of Stevenston, in the Intermediate Novice Men Category.

Lucy, of Ardrossan, Lily Thomson, of Hollybush, Libby, of Kilmarnock, Lauryn, of Glasgow, competed in the Intermediate Novice Ladies Category.

Affiliate members Lucy Gardiner, who skates for the Galleon Ice Dance & Figure Skating Club in Kilmarnock, and Zoe Templeton, who skates for Ayr Figure Skating Club, but both skate for Auchenharvie as a second club, also competed in that Category.

They say good things come in threes - and Louise's bronze medal means she is now a three-time British bronze medalist.

She also scooped third place at the British Championships in 2015 and 2016, but was robbed of a medal at last year's event due to injury.

Her latest success means she has won a medal in each of the seven competitions she took part in this year, while Luke has now won eight medals in 2018.

The skaters' performances also build on the success of the club's impressive father and son members, Billy Mair Senior and Junior.

Billy Senior competed at the Adult British Championships earlier in the year, between May and June, while Billy Junior won three gold medals at the World Figure & Fancy Skating Championship Festival in Colorado in September.
