GLENAFTON ATHLETIC 3

IRVINE MEADOW 2

A LAST gasp goal from Irvine native Dale Moore saw the hosts edge out high-flying Meadow in a five-goal thriller at Loch Park.

This was a game of many twists and turns and turned out to be a cracker, despite the dreadful overhead conditions.

The wind swirled around the ground and rain also making it a real test of nerve for both teams.

Meadow were on a real high after winning their last five league games and despite taking only a point from their first seven games they were sitting second in the table going into this clash with 13 victories.

The home side began strongly and opened the scoring in the first minute through Joe Andrew.

The visitors drew level before the break when Roddy Paterson headed home a corner-kick. Paterson moved Meadow ahead with another fine header- this time sourced from a well-flighted free-kick.

The New Cumnock side fashioned an equaliser in 80 minutes with a fine finish from substitute Mick McCann.

Three minutes later Moore came up trumps in a goalmouth scramble, forcing home a late winner for the home side which helped them leapfrog Meadow into second spot.

Glens enjoy a free week to recharge their batteries, while Irvine Meadow host basement team Cambuslang Rangers.
